Louis Majorelle, important desk (in restoration)

Exquisite and important desk, part of Study or Library Room designed by Louis Majorelle (1859-1926) for the 1925 Paris exhibition “Exposition des Arts Decoratifs” which launched Art Deco style in France and internationally. In bookmatched macassar ebony and solid mahogany, front side having a pair of doors fitted with Majorelle in-house cast decorative wrought iron pulls and enclosing shelves, flanking middle exposed segment with a single shelf decorated with playful marquetry in padouk wood which incorporates mother of pearl inlays; the sitting side with corresponding pair of doors and hardware, enclosing single shelf and storage on the left and five drawers on the right. Elegant curvaceous top with carved and fluted edges. Stamped.
