Ernst Haiger, sideboard with marble top
Ref #: SV19
Very rare and fine sideboard by Ernst Haiger (1874-1952) for Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk (United Workshops for Arts in Handcrafts) in Munich. In painted and lacquered wood, featuring three large centrally positioned drawers with round pulls and fleur-de-lis escutcheons flanked by two curved doors with dramatic, sculpted pulls and fleur-de-lis escutcheons, each enclosing a single shelf (all hardware in gilt bronze). Of great architectural quality, in simplified Rococo taste; raised on four short, beautifully incorporated cabriole legs and fitted with original Greek verde antico marble top. This excellent piece is a very fine example of early 20th Century elegant traditionalist design with modernist leanings. Labeled.
